Custom Sofas Made in Kigali
Custom sofas in Kigali from Crafters Furniture and Interior Design are new sofas, sectionals and L-shapes designed around your room and built to order in our own workshop at Gacuriro 55, KG 375 St, Kigali, Rwanda. You choose the shape, size, fabric or leather and colour.

Who a custom sofa is for
A made-to-order sofa makes sense when a standard size does not fit the wall, when you want a specific seat depth or height for comfort, or when the colour has to match a room you have already planned. Families often want a deep L-shape for the living room; apartment owners may need a compact two-seater that still seats well; hotels, lounges and offices need seating in a consistent fabric across several pieces.
If you already own a sofa and want it repaired or recovered, that is a different service — see our upholstery and re-upholstery page. This page is about building a new sofa from the frame up.
Shapes we build
Every sofa is drawn to your dimensions, so these are starting points rather than fixed models:
- L-shape and corner sofas, with the chaise on the left or right.
- Two-seater and three-seater sofas.
- Modular sectionals that can be rearranged.
- Curved lounge sofas for larger living rooms and reception areas.
- Chesterfield-style sofas and daybeds.
Fabric, leather and colour choices
Covers are available in velvet, boucle, linen, chenille and genuine leather. Each has its own character: velvet gives depth of colour, boucle adds texture, linen feels relaxed, chenille is soft and hard-wearing, and leather ages well with use.
Our current colour range includes beige, cream, off-white, light grey, medium grey, taupe, sand, charcoal grey, black, dark brown, chocolate brown, warm mocha, navy blue, dusty blue, olive green, sage green, khaki, terracotta, camel and soft blush. You can preview colours on our sofas in the shop before you decide, and we will show you real fabric samples before production.
How design, build and install works
We start by understanding the room: wall length, where the doors and windows are, how many people need to sit and whether the sofa should face a TV, a window or a dining area. From there we agree the shape, overall size, seat depth, arm style and cushion feel, and you choose the cover.
The sofa is then built in our Kigali workshop on a kiln-dried hardwood frame with webbing or sinuous springs and high-density foam, before it is covered and finished. Our team delivers it and places it in the room, checking that modules line up and cushions sit correctly.
How to measure your space
You do not need to be precise to start a conversation, but good numbers make the first drawing much closer to the final piece. Use a metal tape, measure in centimetres and write each figure on a simple sketch of the room.
- Wall lengths, measured at floor level and again at about 1 metre high, because walls are rarely perfectly straight.
- Ceiling height in at least two places.
- Positions of windows, doors, sockets, switches, pipes and the main water or gas points.
- Skirting height and any beams, columns or boxed-in pipes.
- Doorways, corridors and stair widths the finished piece has to pass through.
What to prepare before you request a quote
A quote for a custom sofa is only as accurate as the information behind it. Before you message us, gather the following so we can respond with useful questions instead of guesses:
- Your rough measurements and a sketch, or simply photos of the room taken from each corner.
- Two or three reference images of styles you like, from Instagram, Pinterest or our portfolio.
- Your preferred colours and finishes, even if you are undecided.
- How the space is used day to day and by whom.
- Your location in Kigali or elsewhere in Rwanda, so we can plan delivery and installation.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a custom sofa and re-upholstery?
A custom sofa is a brand-new piece built from a new frame to your measurements. Re-upholstery repairs and recovers a sofa you already own. We offer both; re-upholstery is covered on our upholstery page.
Can you make an L-shape sofa to fit my living room?
Yes. L-shape and corner sofas are built to your wall measurements, with the chaise on whichever side suits the room.
Which fabrics can I choose for my sofa?
Velvet, boucle, linen, chenille and genuine leather, in colours ranging from neutrals such as beige, cream and grey to deeper tones such as navy blue, olive green, terracotta and chocolate brown.
What is inside your sofas?
A kiln-dried hardwood frame, webbing or sinuous springs and high-density foam, finished in the cover you choose.
Can I see the colour before ordering?
Yes. You can preview colours on sofas in our online shop, and we show physical fabric samples before production.
Do you make sofas for hotels, offices and restaurants?
Yes. We build lounge seating, reception sofas and banquettes for commercial interiors, in consistent fabrics across several pieces.
